A few small habits keep every candle burning clean, even and long. We call it the candle ritual.
1. Let the first burn melt all the way across
The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of the jar. This usually takes two to three hours, and it stops the candle from tunnelling down the middle.
2. Trim the wick
Before every light, trim the wick to about ¼ inch (5 mm). A short wick gives a calm, steady flame and keeps the jar free of soot.
3. Burn for four hours at most
After four hours, put the flame out and let the candle cool for at least two hours before lighting it again.
4. Snuff instead of blowing out
Use a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it again. There's no smoke, and the scent lingers a little longer.
Each candle we carry comes from a small brand, so check its label for any care tips of its own.
Always burn candles within sight, away from anything that can catch fire, and out of reach of children and pets. Stop burning when about ½ inch of wax remains.
